Bed and BreakfastBed and breakfasts have been a popular choice for many years with tourists throughout the world. Bed and breakfasts mainly originated from around the UK and they were widely used through out the country when sea side holidays and resorts were at their most popular.

Below is some information on what a bed and breakfast is and how they have changed over the years with the services they provide and standard of accommodation.

- History - The history of bed and breakfasts is a long one and in the beginning there were certain ways in which the service was provided. For example if there was a doctor travelling on business then he would be expected to stay with the local doctor or pharmacist, as in the case of a nobleman they would be expected to stay with the local gentry of the same class. The buildings used were often grand homes and in later years those that owned these homes would charge for use of the rooms only by people of a certain status. This is because in that time status was of great importance and so those with little or no status would rarely even socialise with upper class never mind stay in their homes.

Bed and Breakfast Interior- Development - The bed and breakfasts you see today have changed greatly since the first stately homes to have been used. This is because like those that had the stately homes others with spare rooms in their homes started to do the same and rent out their spare rooms for the night. This meant that bed and breakfasts became more common through out the country with varying standards depending on the persons budget, preference, status etc. They now also tend to offer more home comforts such as a TV in the rooms and breakfast being their choice, in Britain breakfast tends to be a traditional fry up (bacon, egg, sausage, tomatoes etc) or becoming ever popular is the continental breakfasts.

- Services - The services vary depending on the type of bed and breakfast because there are now places such as bed and breakfast inns that offer different services to the private homes. For a start the inns have more rooms to offer and often provide a wider range of services to the guests. Some of the extra services the inns can provide are fairly similar to that of a hotel including spa treatments such as massages, hair treatments etc. Some inns if near places of interest will provide trips or excursions to these places for the guests and some times these trip expenses are included in the price of the room.
