Beach ActivitiesThere are now many different types of travel insurance because of the variation there is now in holiday destinations. Travel insurance acts as a back up in case you were to need medical treatment whilst abroad or if something were to go wrong with your travel arrangements such as a long delay or cancellation. This is so you could then claim back any costs of accommodation you had to pay for whilst waiting for your flights or get your money back if there was a full cancellation.

Some examples of the different types of insurance available and the types of holiday on which you will need them are below.

Different types of insurance

There are different types because there are different levels of cover available as you will have more risk on certain holidays than you would on others. For example if you were going on a skiing holiday you would be more at risk to serious injury than if you were going on a beach holiday. This is for the obvious reason that skiing and snowboarding are extreme sports so you are more at risk automatically because even the best skiers or snowboarders can still have serious accidents. The price of the different levels varies from company to company and also on the length of time you want to be covered; you can now buy cover for a whole year as well as a single trip.

Type of events insurance covers you for

LuggageAgain there are variations on what you are covered for depending on the company and the level of cover you buy. There are some insurance policies that provide you with the simplest cover and only contributing in the case of medical emergency. Where as others will contribute when there is a medical emergency but will also cover your possessions such as wallet, money and even things such as sunglasses. The companies that cover your possessions usually provide you with a replacement or the cost of the product in the event of theft or loss as soon as you get home, although with money loss or theft some companies get the money to you whilst still on holiday.

When you need insurance

It is advised that you always take out insurance when you are travelling but there are holidays that it is required for you to have insurance before you can even go. These are usually extreme sport holidays such as skiing, snowboarding and water sports such as white water rafting. This is because you are more at risk and the company wouldnt want to risk you having an accident and not being able to afford the fees for medical care.
