History of tree house hotels

There is a fairly long history to this style of hotel that stretches back to the time of Major Eric Walker who built the first one in 1932 that he built for his wife. It was situated in Kenyas Aberdare Range and was mainly used in the start for guests to use over night as a viewing platform to watch the animals on the plain. It was when it was discovered that there was money to be made in this kind of back to basics accommodation that more people took to building tree house hotels around the African plains. Through out the years the tree top hotels have been very popular with the members of the Royal family with many of them staying in these types of hotel for various important occasions.

How the tree hotels are built

The hotels are built with the idea of causing as little physical damage to the trees as possible. So instead of the planks of wood being nailed into the tree the houses are built around the actual branches. They use pressure treated wood to make sure that they are as strong as possible and to add more security to the structure they use decking screws to fasten the pieces of wood together. For the flooring they need to plan greatly before starting to build any of it because they need to be sure its level. For the flooring they would also have to use pressure treated plywood so it is stable enough to hold the weight of the people staying in it.

The modern day tree hotels are far more sophisticated than the earlier versions offering more facilities than ever. There are many tree hotels that offer similar services to that of a normal hotel with the ability to provide guests with whatever meals they desire, spa treatments, game tours etc. Although there are these new tree house hotels that are not as environmentally friendly there are still those that are a fairly basic tree house hotel for people that have a keen interest in wildlife and protecting the environment.
